Let's work together to achieve equity across our education system and its classrooms.

The Challenge

With the Alice Springs (Mpartnwe) Education Declaration our education system embraces a bold vision:

Our vision is for a world class education system that encourages and supports every student to be the very best they can be, no matter where they live or what kind of challenges they may face.

However, evidence and experience suggest this is far from being realised.

Who we are & how we work

The Education Equity Alliance is a Victorian-based not-for-profit organisation with DGR-1 led by experienced teachers and school leaders.  We formally commenced operations in July 2024 following 18 months of volunteer-based work.  â€‹

Our Vision

An education system where students achieve equity of outcomes no matter their background or circumstances.

Our Mission

To empower students and teachers from low-SES school communities

to be partners in system-change for education equity.

Our Theory of Change

Activities

If we empower students and teachers through systems thinking

And then we enable collaboration & action

And then we spread this learning to catalyse system-wide change

THEN this will result in the education system working more collaboratively and coherently to drive meaningful improvements in education equity (including improved learning, wellbeing & engagement outcomes)

Capacity-building workshops with students and teachers and undertaking shared systems-mapping drawing upon their lived experience and the wider evidence-base.

School Network

Convening a School Network of Victorian low-SES schools to focus on what matters most for improvement in low-SES contexts AND collaborating on change at both the school and system level

Collective Impact ('The Collective')

Building a coalition of organisations to shift systemic barriers to education equity in low-SES communities and enabling collective learning, action and advocacy

Knowledge Sharing

(ie. Forums, Annual Summit)

Advocacy

(ie. Advocacy Platform, Roundtables)

Term 2 Workshop -
How do we prioritise our activities for improved equity?

Monday 30th June

9am to 4pm

In-Person, Orygen Parkville

Join the Education Equity Alliance's School Network for an interactive workshop considering 'how do we prioritise our activites for improved education equity?'.

This workshop is for Principal-Class and Middle Leaders in Victorian low-SES schools (ICSEA below 1000).

We know that the work of achieving equity of outcomes for the young people in low-SES school contexts is significant - and that schools are constantly making important decisions about where to place limited time, energy and resources.

Come together with colleagues to consider key priorities for improved equity in low-SES schools, including: raising expectations, ensuring a classroom culture for learning (including attendance), striking the balance of learning and wellbeing, and enabling the conditions for teachers to do their work.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

The Education Equity Alliance acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands upon which we work and live.

We pay our respects to the First Nations elders, families, students, and colleagues we have had the privilege to work alongside in the pursuit of education, and all they have taught us.

We will work alongside these communities to realise an education system that recognises the strength and potential of our First Nations students, and so many others, each and every day.
