A mud map of school & system improvement priorities for equity

The Education Equity Alliance is excited to share its mud map of school & system improvement priorities for equity. This guide has been built based on the contributions of over 1,000 students, teachers and system stakeholders - many from across low-SES school communities. A huge thank you to all those who have contributed.

The Mud Map

We know there is urgent and important work being undertaken by schools and a range of system stakeholders to support improved equity for their students.

Fortunately, we have a strong evidence-base of the teaching, learning and wellbeing practice that can improve outcomes for students.  However, we also know that these practices are far from consistently in place.

Drawing upon systems-thinking methodology, the Alliance's mud map outlines the conditions that enable this important work.  To support this work, the Education Equity Alliance has worked with over 1,000 students, teachers and system stakeholders through systems mapping workshops. We have specifically focused on students and teachers from low-SES school communities.

In this way, the mud map brings together the evidence-base for best-practice in education, systems thinking methodology and lived experience

It is a 'mud map' because it is how we see these conditions at the current point in time (October 2024).  It will be revised as our work deepens and we work with further student and teachers.

Download a guide to the mud map below.  This guide contains supporting detail on each section of the map, along with examples of practice and supporting resources.

Webinar Recording

On 31 October 2024, the Alliance hosted a webinar sharing the mud map and key insights from its works with other 1,000 students, teachers and system stakeholders.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

The Education Equity Alliance acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands upon which we work and live.

We pay our respects to the First Nations elders, families, students, and colleagues we have had the privilege to work alongside in the pursuit of education, and all they have taught us.

We will work alongside these communities to realise an education system that recognises the strength and potential of our First Nations students, and so many others, each and every day.
